NYC's Best Makeup Salons

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

There will always be someone at the department store beauty counter happy to do your makeup for a date, a scary job interview, or whatever event you've got to look great for—but they'll also likely be pushing you to leave the store with a bag full of designer products. Booking a makeup application that doesn't come with a side of salesmanship? That's a little trickier.

That's why we've rounded up ten of the best places in New York City to have a customized makeup application where you can be sure you a) won't have to hear a sales pitch, and b) leave looking like your best self. Bonus: The majority are all around just $50.
