Welcome to Day Tripping: our seasonal guides for getting out of the city this summer, and what to do when you're there.

First things first: Westchester County is not upstate. Now that that's out of the way, let's figure out where to shop there. We decided to focus on the northern part of the county this time—with a more suburban vibe (read: lots of trees) than points south, you'll feel like you're much farther from home than you actually are.

Plan to visit these ten places mapped out below for your day trip excursion, which range from upscale boutiques to an independent bookstore and a highly-rated brunch. Warning: You'll need a car, or at least someone who has one, to get around up there—it might be best to hit up a Hertz before you get out of the city.

Wishes Boutique

This intimate boutique greets you with the not-too-overwhelming scents of the candle selection and keeps you here with its great selection of gifts. Tread carefully—Wishes is filled to the brim, and a large purse could knock over the Stonewall Kitchen or Thyme body products if you're not mindful. [Photo]

Country Willow Home

Westchester Magazine just named this store one of the county's best places to buy furniture, and it's easy to see why—most of the handmade pieces from their own line skew toward that rustic look that make you pine for a cabin in the woods. [Photo]

Churchills of Mount Kisco

Both guys and girls can shop contemporary designers here, with ladies choosing from Equipment, Nili Lotan, and Haute Hippie, and dudes going casual with Rag & Bone or dressing with Boss Hugo Boss suiting. Bonus: The store is dotted with waist-high dog statues. [Photo]

Crabtree's Kittle House

The restaurant-slash-inn is a go-to event venue for Westchesterites, largely thanks to its consistently-high Zagat rating. Brunch is available every day, though they offer a bigger menu on Sunday. Reservations are highly recommended. [Photo]

Great Stuff

Though the name might be a little obvious, Great Stuff has anchored itself as a shopping destination because they carry exactly what they tout. Think denim from Mother and James Jeans, soft tops from Vince and Majestic, and maxi dresses from Kamali Kulture. [Photo]

Shuppee

This recent addition to the hamlet's downtown shopping area features its own line of mineral-based makeup, with everything from lipsticks to liquid foundation. The rest of the store offers jewelry, purses, and miniature bottles of designer perfume that would make perfect gifts. [Photo]

Glass Onion Originals

Our favorite pieces from this idyllic Pleasantville shop that features several local artisans are the quirkier ones, like a napkin holder made out of bent forks and spoons. Consider stopping here if you need a gift for your Westchester host/hostess. [Photo]

Village Bookstore

We all know how important independent bookstores are, and so does Hillary Clinton—when she hosted a meet-and-greet for her latest book at the library down the road, all copies had to be purchased here to be eligible for signing. Right next store to Glass Onion, this shop is filled with handwritten recommendations from the staff popping out of the shelves. [Photo]

Star Spangled Carousel

Brought a style-hungry youngster along on your day trip? Stop by the Armonk store that outfits babies to tweens of both genders in super-cute pieces. Also, the price tags here won't make you cringe when you realize your little darling won't fit in the adorable blouse you just bought this time next year. [Photo]

A Nu Toy Store

In the picturesque town that one photographer told us makes a great spot for engagement photos is a toy store that specializes in new and "previously loved" playthings. We saw vintage Barbies and American Girl dolls on a recent trip, plus an entire section dedicated to eco-friendly goods. [Photo]
