Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

In some New York stores, the customers are as eye-catching as the merchandise. No need for binoculars: If spotting pretty, wealthy, well-tailored individuals within arms reach is your sport of choice, visit Barneys New York. But, please—no touching.
To witness a surplus of young, hip shoppers in action, head to Owen. The boutique is on-trend without being overly trendy, and the same can be said of its shoppers, who go there for brands like Suno, L'Agence, Ohne Titel, and more.
Forget bars, coffee shops, or the gyms—all the cute, preppy guys in Manhattan hang out at Gant. Stop by to scope out the polo shirts, and if you're lucky, leave with a number.

To snag a clean-cut boy your mother would love, hightail it to the J. Crew Liquor Store on West Broadway. You might even get some shopping done, while you're at it.
Though the prices can get pretty steep, nothing inside this cozy Mott Street boutique feels unobtainable—including the shoppers. Break away from the intimidation of the uptown rich and powerful, and take a leisurely stroll through the world of the hip, downtown low-maintenance crowd. And did we mention they're all pretty easy on the eyes, too?

Maryam Nassir Zadeh

For a concentrated dosage of stylish hipsters, head over to Maryam Nassir Zadeh on the Lower East Side. But don't mistake it for a Bushwick house party: here lives the clean, fashion forward, showered type.

Kiki de Montparnasse
