Have you taken a look at the few blocks of Fifth Avenue just south of Saks lately? If the crowded sidewalks, traffic noise and skyscraper shadows were removed, you could be inside of a suburban mall.
Joining the stretch that already includes a giant Sephora, Aldo, United Colors of Benetton,American Girl and TGI Friday's is a massive new Sunglass Hut. Fifth Avenue is a long way from a kiosk in a Westfield Shopping Center, and so this location is adjusting by offering up the line of limited-edition Ray-Bans for summer. It reminds us of the growing pains Sunglass Hut went through when they landed on Bleecker Street two years ago.
At least the tensions up on Fifth aren't nearly as bad as the head-to-head game going on between Solstice and the new Oakley store in the Meatpacking District. People better want to buy some new sunglasses this summer.
