If you don't know Cushnie et Ochs by name already, chances are you've spotted them on the racks while shopping. The NYC-based design duo's body-con dresses that often feature inventive cutouts can be found everywhere from Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue to Fivestory and Scoop (RIP), and now you can find them somewhere a little different. The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist label has teamed up with Bandier, the fancy Hamptons-based activewear boutique, on an exclusive range of workout gear that you can find online or at the Flatiron store.
There's a few things that you'll notice about the 10-piece collection right off the bat. First of all, it's all black, basically screaming "New Yorker uniform" with every piece. Second, there's a lot of cutouts and mesh inserts, just like Cushnie et Och's mainline designs. And third, prices are a bit on the expensive side — but these items aren't meant solely for the gym.
The "high-performance bodycon silhouettes reflect the edginess and fashion sensibility of NYC," boutique founder Jenn Bandier wrote via email, and are meant to be worn both out and about and for sweat sessions.
"So, it's athleisure," you're probably thinking — but not according to Bandier. "We don't like the word 'athleisure,' so we decided to change the term and to create a new category, which we are calling #ACTIVEFASHION," she wrote, "Cushnie et Ochs is the perfect designer partnership to help us start this movement."
