Thanks to a tipster, we've learned that all Comptoir des Cotonniers locations in the US will be closing their doors shortly. We popped into the Flatiron flagship earlier today and were greeted with a sign touting 60% off the entire store, plus some sample sale signage. The sales associate let us know that by the end of February, all of its physical stores would be vacated — and the online store may or may not be gone, too.
As for the sale, it was already looking pretty picked through. We spotted a small number of blazers and jackets in the front that had been already been marked down a few times (starting at $156), as well a a couple of dresses and tops. If you're looking for scarves and hats (starting at $30), those could be found near the register. While there was a good selection of styles, there weren't too many sizes available on the floor.
In the back of the store was the sample sale section, where we found a good amount of winter coats, trenches, and anoraks all priced at $100 or less. Shirts start at $35, but most of the options are only available in white and blue, and sizes are very limited. The sweater section (all $40) had a better range of colors to choose from, and dresses ($60) can be found by the fitting rooms, with both work-appropriate and more casual styles to choose from.
Calls to the Soho, West Village, and Madison Avenue stores went unanswered this afternoon, so it's unclear whether these stores are also holding a sale — or whether they're still operating at all. Our tipster reports that the Upper West Side store closed early in January and that the Bloomingdale's shop-in-shop closed in the fall.
If you're looking to revamp your wardrobe basics, you can pop into the Fifth Avenue store now or take your chances later on in the month, as the discounts will likely increase; we'll keep you updated on if and when that happens.
