What's Left at Saks Fifth Avenue's End-of-Season Sale, Now Up to 70% Off

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The new year brought deeper discounts to Saks Fifth Avenue's end-of-season sale. We popped into the luxury department store, across from the huge Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, to find that markdowns are additional 25% off of the current ticketed prices, which makes for a total of 70% off original retail.

You'll find that the sale items are plentiful in the women's contemporary section, with racks of marked-down merchandise literally lining the walkways on the fifth floor. There are discounts on designer brands like DVF, Tibi, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Alice + Olivia, Theory, and Vince, among others. For example that means DVF wrap dresses for $143.40 (just a smidge cheaper than what they were at the old sample sales), Theory sleeveless vests for $204.75, and Vince leather pants for $447.75.

We also took the opportunity to see how low the handbags could go and found a sparse offering of select styles from Loeffler Randall ($188), Tory Burch, Michael Kors ($516), Marc Jacobs, and Rebecca Minkoff for up to 60% off. If you're looking for a new bag to start off the year, this probably isn't the place to buy it.

The women's shoe department, on the other hand, was very well-stocked (just like Barneys) with discounts of up to 60% off the original prices. We found brands like Chanel (heels, $1,060), Prada (heels, $300), Marni (flats, $424), Charlotte Olympia (heels, $626), Jimmy Choo (booties, $580), and Miu Miu (glitter slingbacks, $750), with most styles available in sizes 5 through 11.5.

And also just like Barneys, now is not the time to score a deal on classic or in-demand styles — rather, it's a good mix of cold-weather boots, sandals, evening shoes, and flats mixed in among high heels on the racks. Click through the gallery above to see the standout styles we spotted.
