The Museum of the City of New York Is Getting in On the Fashion Exhibit Game

Step into the world of 20th century high fashion, courtesy of The Museum of the City of New York's newest exhibit Dressing Room: Archiving Fashion. Guests will get a behind-the-scenes look at the digitization of notable New Yorkers' garments, including Rosie the Riveter's jumpsuit, Gentleman Prefer Blondes author Anita Loo's Balenciaga Chantilly lace cocktail dress, and the Halston mink-trimmed evening gown Candice Bergen wore to Truman Capote's Black and White Ball at the Plaza Hotel in 1966.

In addition to the above, visitors will be able to watch the museum's staff actually dress the mannequins with items from its mid-20th century women's fashion collection and photograph the finished product that'll then be uploaded to the museum's online collections destination for this one-year project.

"Dressing Room offers a unique opportunity for museum-goers to see garments that embody the pinnacle of last century's NYC fashion scene and to experience firsthand how the Museum of the City of New York is working to make our permanent collection widely accessible to a 21st century audience," Whitney Donhauser, Ronay Menschel Director of the Museum of the City of New York, said in a release.

Dressing Room will be open to the public Monday through Friday between 10am and 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 3:30pm.
