Equinox has plans to open another gym at 315 Park Avenue South in Flatiron. The fitness company just signed a 20-year lease for its new 44,458 square-foot space, The Real Deal is reporting, and the location will eventually boast four exercise studios, a spa, a retail space, and a lounge.
"The great visibility, high ceilings and dramatic space at 315 Park Avenue South naturally attracted us to this location," Jeffrey Weinhaus, the chief development officer of Equinox, said in a statement obtained by the Commercial Observer. "It fills a gap in our neighborhood coverage that enables us to draw from the wealth of high-end office and residential activity."
A smart move, considering when its Park Avenue South location opens between 23rd and 24th Streets, it'll be just a couple avenues away from Flatiron's spandex-heavy scene that includes Tory Sport, Bandier, Lululemon, Athleta, and more. This year is already shaping up to be a strong one for Equinox — it's set to open three other locations in Dumbo, the Upper East Side, and Midtown (the Lower East Side and its "healthy hotel" will come later).
