Crate & Barrel Closed Its Flagship Way Ahead of Schedule

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Well, that was a fast goodbye. Instead of savoring its last week (and sharing big discounts) on Madison Avenue, Crate & Barrel abruptly and unexpectedly shut its doors after last night. Calls to the store are going unanswered, and the location page on the brand's website lists all hours as "closed." According to both previous reports and signage in the window as recently as yesterday, the home goods shop had planned to stay open daily between 11am and 7pm through Sunday, August 2nd, with a storewide sale of 40% off retail prices.

Now, 611 Broadway on the corner of Houston Street is the only Crate & Barrel in Manhattan.
