Six Ways to Tackle Spring-Summer Weather Limbo

"I moved to New York for the weather," is a sentence that has never been uttered by anyone, ever. And with good reason—what starts off as a chilly morning can turn into a perfect 70-degree day before an afternoon heat wave rolls in. So, in an effort to simplify spring dressing (and curb our weather app dependency) we tapped three of our favorite boutiques—Sincerely Tommy, Frankie, and The Rising States—to put together looks that work just as well in 50 degrees as they do in 80. Just make sure to add a bag that's big enough for a bottle of sunscreen and an emergency cardigan.

Sincerely Tommy

Owner Kai Avant-deLeon doesn't shy away from standout silhouettes. Rather than rely on jeans and tees or fit-and-flare dresses during the warmer months, the Bed-Stuy boutique owner gets experimental with architectural overalls, breezy short sets, and sheer anoraks.

Carly Hunter jumpsuit, $295; Sincerely Tommy cut out A-line shirt, $61.50; Kara shearling 'Stowaway' bag, $400.

Like windbreaker, $815; House of 950 Tyveck 'Scrimmage' tee, $175; House of 950 Tyveck 'Sleeper' shorts, $123; Loeffler Randall white 'Alfie' espadrille sneakers, $195 (available at The Rising States).

Frankie

Stanton Street shop Pixie Market shut its doors last fall to reemerge as Frankie—a minimalist version of its former twee self. (Don't worry Pixie Market fans, the boutique's Peter Pan collar blouses are still alive and well on its website.) Owner Gaelle Drevet put together two looks for a night out—the first built around of-the-moment culottes, the second a daring take on the pantsuit (try a silk cami underneath the blazer if side-boob isn't your thing).

Finders Keepers 'Limitless' striped top, $132; Finders Keepers culottes, $142.

Lavish Alice navy crossover belted pants, $86; Lavish Alice collarless cape blazer, $84.

The Rising States

We can always count on The Rising States to bring the color. Owner Meagan Delaney styled a blush Samantha Pleet jumpsuit with a business-on-the-outside-party-on-the-inside bomber. The second look is Racked's take on a fashion flasher, featuring a Brooks Brothers trench from TRS's vintage stash.

Samantha Pleet 'Moonrise' jumpsuit, $315; Nikki Chasin 'Captain' reversible bomber jacket, $895; Loeffler Randall white 'Alfie' espadrille sneakers, $195.

Carla Colour 'Lind' circle sunglasses, $165; Brookes Boswell 'Marketmore' cap, $150; Vintage Brooks Brothers trench coat, $198.
