After opening two NYC stores in just six months, cool French-girl label The Kooples has finally brought their sample sales to the states. Though it kicks off this morning, we scoped out the selection at last night's preview and spotted tons of silk shirts, slouchy trousers, school-girl shoes, and mod miniskirts. And yes, leather jackets.
Oh, those leather jackets—there are precious few, and at $295, they were undoubtedly the most popular item at the preview. However, there were plenty of other outerwear options, from army jackets to down parkas (not that you'll be needing one for a while), all for $225. Nearby, there are look-at-me blazers ($195), some of which have brocade or shiny details, while others come in baby blue or basic black.
Dresses, all $125, lean towards work-appropriate silhouettes, but the nearby skirt and shorts section has mod minis ($60) and leather shorts ($125) made for partying. There are plenty of easy, lightweight trousers in understated prints ($80), a middle section for denim in an array of colors and washes ($65), and an entire wall dedicated to tops. Basic tees and tanks will cost you between $45 and $50, while silk button-downs, ranging in patterns from snakeskin to star-covered to subtle gradient, cost $70.
You'll find the shoe section in the far back of the room. Everything is $125, from oxfords to sandals, pony-hair loafers to work boots. In the middle of the room, there's a small section of handbags, belts, swimwear, ties, and jewelry.
Over in the men's section, expect to find lots of suiting, including blazers and outerwear for $225, pants for $95, $80 shirts, $75 sweatshirts, $55 polos, $85 cardigans, and leather jackets for $295.
Overall, sizes tend to be on the smaller end—we spotted tons of XS and S and very few mediums and larges, but a decent amount of XLs. Stock will be replenished throughout the sale, and while there's no word of markdowns just yet, we'll keep you posted.
