Prices start at just $35 at the Kara sample sale, located in the Garment District's CFDA Incubator. We popped into the friends and family event last night and found deep discounts on the handbags and backpacks that put this brand on the map. Current season designs—including metallic backpacks and fringe pouches—are up to 40% off.
This is the perfect opportunity to stock up on one-of-a-kind styles that never made it to production, including denim and raffia bags that feel fresh for spring. There are plenty of samples to choose from, like pony hair backpacks for $275 and mesh styles for $250.
Samples priced under $100 have flaws—mostly just uneven stitching that isn't very noticeable. Classic "dry bags" are going for $65, while prototypes of current styles, including messenger bags, are $100. Small bags and wallets from previous seasons are only $35.
If you're in the market for an everyday tote bag, there are lots of lightweight leather options that transition seamlessly from city to beach, priced right at $100. Every style that's in the sample sale is out on the floor, but staffers told us that there's backstock for some items, like the large "stowaway" bag.
This sale has steeper discounts than usual, so it is definitely worth braving the expected crowds. Be sure to stop by early for the best selection.
