Williamsburg's Apple Store, Whole Foods Are Nowhere Close to Ready

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Those of you anticipating/dreading the "death of Williamsburg" part 45 (that's a made-up number, since we've lost count) will need to hold out for a bit longer. Local blog Brownstoner visited the sites of the neighborhood's forthcoming Whole Foods and Apple stores recently, and they are still most definitely hard hat zones.

The Whole Foods on Bedford Avenue (right near the borough's first J. Crew) has been on the agenda for years now, is in more or less the same state as it was several months ago, when a second story was added. Meanwhile, down the road at Apple, which was only confirmed several months ago, things are moving along a bit faster. However, it certainly won't be open this month, as the New York Post originally reported.

Any guesses for opening dates? We're taking bets.

Perhaps the Apple store is going for an "open air" vibe?
