Well, at least it'll be America's largest? Empire Outlets, the giant Staten Island complex that'll contain an outlet mall (which announced several new stores yesterday), a baseball field, and more, was also supposed to boast the world's largest Ferris Wheel at 630 feet (beating Las Vegas' 550-foot wheel). But as our sister site Curbed NY writes, The New York Wheel already been topped before construction has begun.
Groundbreaking on the 690-foot Dubai Eye took place last week, and Mashable reports that the same firm is building both wheels. The New York Wheel was supposed to be farther along at this point—snow delayed its original construction start date—but that could be a blessing in disguise: Maybe now they can push it up to 700 feet.
