This just in: Anna Wintour hates Tonys fashion—specifically, the kind of dresses chosen by Broadway divas who likely pronounce camera "cam-er-aah" a la Jenna Maroney.
"I was just recently at the Tony Awards... and god, they need your help. Let me tell you, it was a disaster," she said in an interview with Suzy Menkes. "How many mermaid fishtail strapless sequin [gowns] can we see?"
Which is why the Vogue editor has been tapped to give Broadway's highest honors a fashion overhaul, Page Six reports. American Theatre Wing chair and costume designer William Ivey Long reportedly asked Wintour to help make the red carpet "more chic, " as last year, only three fashion brands sent emails to editors claiming dress credits. We'll have to wait until June 7th to see exactly how chic, but we're guessing no one will dare show up looking like a bedazzled sea creature this time around.
