Is Rag & Bone's Sample Sale Worth a Weekend Visit?

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We stopped by Rag & Bone's sample sale just before closing last night, to scope out what's left. In the past, the stock has been heavily depleted after the first day, especially in the shoe and bag departments. But to our surprise, there was still a lot of merch. Some styles of bags are gone, but a ton of Pilot bags (mini, medium and large) are still hanging around, including a large selection of mini perforated black and white Pilots for $125 (regularly $395). We also spotted about five large Aston satchels for $225 (regularly $925).

There was only one girl tending the footwear section and grabbing sizes, and she had a nice tall stack of shoe boxes behind her. Styles with a wide variety of sizes include the Dumn oxfords, Clarendon loafers, Folsom sandals, Kent slip-ons, Quinn sandals, Wyatt sandals, Grove booties and a nice stack of the Hunter x Rag & Bone rainboots. We spotted one style of canvas Newbury boots but no Harrow or Dixon boots. The shoes with only one size remaining were put in a pile, or displayed on a wooden shelf.

In the women's clothing section, we noticed a few racks of one-off samples—two close to the stairs and two by the cashiers. The samples didn't seem to get much attention, probably because they're not any cheaper than the regular stuff. We spotted a few interesting pieces but nothing worth snatching up.

Dresses are $195 and leather combo dresses are $295. There are still many nice styles left including the leather combo Lauren dress for $295 (was $695), the Alex dress for $195 (was $495) and the Watson Flare dress for $195 (on sale online for $495).

Over by the outerwear, we noticed some warm parkas perfect for this winter. There is a whole row of Challenge coats for $350 and we also spotted some moto leather jackets for $500 (regularly $1300-$1700).

Tees (with short and long sleeves) and sweaters are bountiful, with all sizes from extra small to large represented. The pieces from last fall's Rag & Bone x Coogi collaboration really stand out from the bunch, with wool crop tops and skirts going for $150 (they were $495 and $395, respectively).

There are still a ton of accessories left including hats, belts, beanies, scarves, card holders, ties and money clips. All $65.

Either the inventory doubles every sample sale season or no one is buying. But the latter is probably not true, since plenty of shoppers were happily checking out with their new bags, shoes and clothes. The stock will be replenished and if you only have time to go on the weekend, we think you'll be okay. Check out the Dealfeed below for more info.—Hsini
