Is there a better way to be ushered into the West Village than by a sex toy store at its Northern border? Fantasy World, a bit seedy in both name and appearance but welcoming to all, has been that gatekeeper for the past several years, reminding us of the neighborhood's swinging past. But as Jeremiah's Vanishing New York reports, the shop has vacated the one-story 192 Seventh Avenue South building for a new home at 333 Sixth Avenue, near West 4th Street. Plans were approved back in October for a five-story commercial/residential building here, and the existing structure will be torn down.
But while Fantasy World has avoided the chopping block for now, they might not be long for this home, either. Real estate firm The Jackson Group owns both addresses, and co-owner Ike Chehebar told The Real Deal that his grand vision to change the neighborhood back in 2013 included bringing a tenant like Victoria's Secret, Sephora, or Dylan's Candy Bar to the Sixth Avenue space. RKF currently has an active listing for this address.
They also shouldn't expect to head back to Seventh Avenue South, either. At the time, Chehebar expressed his desire to "reposition that asset with a high-end, value-add tenant—something along the lines of Nespresso." Get your fix of the old West Village while you still can.
