Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Cosabella's winter sample sale kicked off in its Soho store this morning. And while the venue isn't super spacious, only 15 customers are allowed in at a time—making for a calm shopping experience (something we were grateful for while digging through the bargain bins).
First off, prices on last call items start at only $5 (the past two sample sales had $10 and $15 bargain bins). The catch: you won't find any bras or panties in the five bargain bins (and one bargain rack), just apparel. A quick dig brought up some lacy babydolls, soft tees, tank tops, long-sleeved shirts, cardigans, jersey dresses and more. Most of the items we pulled out were in size medium. All last call items are marked with green stickers—be sure to double-check for them, since there are other sale items mixed in by mistake.
As usually, the sale offers an array of bras, panties and silky babydolls. Colorful bras line the top racks, where underwire styles are priced at $35 and bralettes are $30. There are more soft bras stuffed in bins.
We spotted only a few styles from Erin Fetherston's collection including this robe for $50, and this pajama set for $30 per piece. For underwear, bikini styles, thongs, and G-strings are $13 and piled in a bin on a table in the center of the room. Also in bins are hot pants for $15, and they're separated by size (from small to large) with medium and large being the most abundant.
If you're planning a warm getaway, definitely check out the swimwear section in the back. Bikini tops are $25, bottoms are $25 and one-piece suits are $50. We spotted black and gray padded triangle tops (which retail for $95) and leopard bandeau tops (which retail for $105), amongst other styles.
Although there are large dressing rooms inside the main store, you're not allowed to use them to try on sample sale items. Since most of the shoppers were female (well, we did see one guy waiting in line after we left), some ladies were not afraid to strip down in front of the mirrors to make sure the styles they had scooped up actually fit.
