Today in annoying-but-not-really-that-surprising news, Brookfield Place won't start opening its shops and restaurants until April despite long having touted March 2015 as its opening date. What's more, Tribeca Trib reports, the 25 shops—most of which are luxury brands like Hermès Diane von Furstenberg, and Michael Kors—will roll out throughout the spring and into mid-summer. Certain stores, namely Burberry and Ferragamo, won't even be open until much later this year.
Though there's no word on the exact opening dates of all the stores (see the full list below), naturally, the last of them will be Brookfield Place's most anticipated: the three-story, 85,000-square-foot Saks Fifth Avenue that's slated for spring 2016.
Another surprise: There's still "six or eight" spaces to fill in the complex, according to David Cheikin, Brookfield Office Properties's vice president for leasing. One tenant that may or may not get one of those leftover spots is Cobbler Express Shoe Repair, which has been open since 1988 and was one of the first shops to return to the area after the September 11th attacks.
Until April, there's not much going on at the mall besides the Hudson Eats food court, the ice rink, and the just-opened Equinox, but in preparation for the big debut, most of the construction barriers will be removed to majorly improve convenience.
Update: A rep from Brookfield Place confirms that the mall will celebrate its grand opening on March 26th, though there's no word of which stores will be open at that time.
