Things aren't so merry and bright at Goop Mrkt, the Gwyneth Paltrow-backed lifestyle brand's holiday pop-up shop that's at The Shops at Columbus Circle until Christmas Eve. As the NYPD confirmed to People, three men stole $173,465 worth of merchandise out of a cabinet within the store on Saturday, skipping out after sales staff called 911 but before the police arrived.
Goop confirmed the theft as well but did not comment on its value, instead releasing the following statement to the magazine:
"There was an isolated incident Saturday afternoon involving a very limited number of items, which was reported to the NYPD...While the store was crowded during one of our busiest days, thankfully the NYPD responded quickly, our customers and staff are safe, and we remain open for business with proper security precautions in place."
The police have yet to make any arrests and are actively investigating the situation.
The reported value of goods stolen may rival tuition at a four-year private college, but it's not too difficult to drop six figures at Goop Mrkt, especially if the exclusive Valentino collaboration is part of your haul. But there's plenty of items you can (legally) grab here that don't require maxing out multiple credit cards, plus a full schedule of free events to enjoy.
