It's official: After signing a "letter of intent," Saks Off Fifth will open a 30,000 square-foot store on the ground floor of the eight-story Liberty View Industrial Plaza in Sunset Park. The Commercial Observer is reporting that the brand signed a ten-year lease and is slated to open in summer or fall 2016, joining Bed Bath & Beyond, Buy Buy Baby, Cost Plus World Market, and Harmon Face Values.
Saks might seem a bit out of place with these names, but apparently the developers really wanted a discounted apparel retailer in the mix. "This site is a no-brainer for any well-researched retailer," Chase Welles of SCG Retail, which is marketing a space at the adjacent Industry City, said when the location was announced back in May. "The high density, the solid incomes, the impressive education levels added to some of the highest traffic counts in the country equal a no-brainer."
The Sunset Park outlet store is just part of Saks Fifth Avenue's city-wide takeover expansion that includes a menswear-only shop at Brookfield Place, a women's store anchoring the same shopping complex, an Off Fifth nearby in the Financial District, another one on 57th Street, the brand's first-ever shoe store in Greenwich, Connecticut, and massive renovations at the Fifth Avenue flagship.
