Immediately after stepping out of the elevator, a wet nose and wiggly tail welcomed us at the Duckie Brown sample sale, which opens to the public on Saturday morning. So there's another reason you should head to the brand's West Village showroom this weekend: Aside from great men's suits and a strong selection of womenswear, there's also Jasper the dog.
When we checked out the showroom on Thursday afternoon, we found a center table completely filled with special pieces. Some of our favorites include striped woven hats for $20 and $30, exquisitely made winter-ready gloves for $60, and bucket hats for all your fishing and Rihanna-imitating needs for $60.
Racks of apparel surround the table. Like in years past, everything here is a true sample, so most items are not only one-of-a-kind but also heavily discounted. Unfortunately, also like last year, there aren’t shoes available.
Overall, it’s mainly a sale geared toward men, with plenty of well-cut work shirts starting at $40, glittery special items starting at $60, and nice overcoats starting at $200. There’s just one rack of clothing for women, but don’t let this small selection turn you off from stopping by — Check out the gallery above to see our favorite finds, including a pair of shorts with sheep all over them for $60.
A rack of higher-end merchandise is towards the back, stuffed with luxe fabric and good tailoring. Some of our favorites were a tweed overcoat for $240 and an impossibly warm-looking black coat for $500.
Size-wise, these samples are going to fit men of a small to medium size range (think pants with 32—34 waists and jackets in sizes from 38—42). For roomier items like knit sweaters and looser shirts, there’s going to be a little bit more wiggle room (literally). For women, there’s a better size variety in both pants and tops. However, the small selection makes it much more limiting.
The doors open on Saturday at 10am, and you're guaranteed to make a new friend if you bring some dog treats. For full details, check out the Deelfeed below.
