Muji is about to get a new North American flagship at 475 Fifth Avenue, right across the street from the New York Public Library's main location. The New York Post reports that Japanese brand of home goods and clothing will take 15,500 square feet at the corner of East 41st Street, about two-thirds of which be below ground level. The annual rent at that address, situated between H&M and Zara to the north and Lord & Taylor to the south, will run them upwards of $33 million, the paper estimates.
An opening date has not yet been set—but city dwellers desperate for organizational baskets and travel-sized containers can shop at the four existing Manhattan locations, plus the to-go shop at JFK's Terminal Five.
