Welcome to Beauty Diary: Seven days of getting glam with an industry insider. From publicists to professional makeup artists, this is a week in the life of someone who lives and breathes beauty.

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

While you were ogling Emma Stone's Golden Globes jumpsuit from your couch, InStyle's fashion and beauty editor-at-large was busy chatting about it with Al Roker on the Today Show—on "almost zero sleep" post-after-partying, no less. For Kahlana Barfield, it's all in a day's work.

We followed Kahlana, a ten-year veteran of the magazine, on her weekend in L.A., sweating it out with trainer Ngo Okafor at Flatiron's Peak Performance, filming a segment with Wendy Williams, and scoping out the best of spring's beauty arrivals.
