Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

"Our sweaters are just as soft as cashmere, but much better for Mother Earth." Always looking to reduce the impact fashion has on our environment, Reformation is releasing a collection of sweaters made from Alpaca wool in their Lower East Side and Soho stores, as well as online, on October 1st.

Unlike the goats that have been overgrazing in Mongolia to feed our insatiable desire for cashmere, the cute creatures providing the fabric here are raised on family-owned ranches in Peru and each have an acre to graze on—making sure that the grass regenerates in each area.

The Alpacas also sheared once a year under humane conditions, so you don't have to worry about some terrible PETA video surfacing to make you feel guilty about what you're wearing.
