The Gant sample sale officially began at 10am this morning, but we stopped by 225 Fifth Avenue last night for the friends and family preview. While the women's section is by no means small, this Gant sample sale is (once again) for the boys.
Men's and women's clothing and accessories are up to 80% off and most of the merchandise is from the fall/winter collection, but we also saw plenty of summer styles in the mix. The sale contains items from all three labels: Gant, Gant by Michael Bastian, and Gant Rugger.
We immediately noticed two racks of men's button-downs in all your standard colors and patterns for $45. There are plenty to go around, although sizes are limited—there's only a handful of shirts in size small, and all the rest were mediums. There's also one full rack of men's polos and rugby shirts for $30—$45, a rack of men's tees for $20, and three racks devoted to sweaters priced at $50. Sizes are available in medium, 2XL and 3XL.
You should check out men's outerwear before any other section. We only spotted two leather jackets (one of which a shopper carried around the whole time we were there) and one suede jacket. The selection of men's blazers was definitely on point—while a bit pricey at $195, we saw a variety of nice styles. Heavier outerwear, including varsity jackets, is $150. In addition, there's a small selection of light outwear and an even smaller group of quilted vests priced at $100 and $75, respectively.
As for men's bottoms, we saw five massive racks filled with a variety of styles—corduroys, chinos, denim and dress pants—all for $50, with most falling in the size 32-34 range.
Men's accessories are displayed at the center of the store, near the entrance and at the checkout area. Most items were neatly organized into different category bins for easy rummaging. Hats, gloves, belts, scarves and ties are $25. Socks are $20 for a pack of three and $7 for one pair. There's also a rack of men's swim trunks for $25.
The selection of women's clothing seems like an afterthought to the menswear—it's a bit disappointing. To start off, there are two racks of women's pants and one rack of women's shorts and skirts. All bottoms are priced at $50. We saw only one rack of sweaters ($50), one rack of shirts ($45) and two styles of dresses ($45). Similar to menswear, outerwear is the highlight of the women's section. Blazers are $150 and we also saw some great khaki trench coats for $150 that were available in a range of sizes.
Not surprisingly, there are limited quantities of women's accessories, where prices are the same as men's. We saw a bin of belts priced at $25. Near the checkout, there's a great selection of women's sunglasses, as well as a few bags for $75 or $125.
The sale runs from 10am-8pm on Thursday, 10am-7pm on Friday and Saturday, and 11am-4pm on Sunday. Check out the Dealfeed below for more information.—Gemma Kim
