Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The warmer months were really, really good to our feet. Things like Birkenstocks, shower slides, and Tevas—once relegated to running errands—were suddenly acceptable brunch-wear, and then (for those with laid-back offices) work-wear, and then "what are heels, even?"

Now that's it's getting cooler, Tibi and Trademark—having anticipated our reluctance to return to actual shoes—have introduced the next step in the evolution of the summer slide: the backless flat. Tibi's version ($385) has a loafer vibe, while Trademark designed a sleek, closed-toe mule ($298). Wear either with cropped black trousers and bask in your Olsen-ness.
