We've been hearing about an Apple store headed to Williamsburg as part of the mass chain invasion (Whole Foods, Starbucks, and J. Crew among them) in the neighborhood for years now. The latest? Gothamist had claimed that the sleek tech giant was looking at the former space of the just-closed King's Pharmacy.
But that rumor was quickly squashed: "Sorry, wish it were true. Apple is not opening in the old King's Pharmacy," said a representative from real estate firm Red Sky Capital (whose affiliation to neither King's Pharmacy nor Apple was made clear). So that begs the question—where the heck is this store going?
Apple has long flirted with the borough, but has yet to make landfall there. Former borough president Marty Markowitz made a big push for a store in Downtown Brooklyn back in 2010, to no avail, and a search at the Williamsburgh Savings Bank tower in Fort Greene also fell flat.
Since then, all chatter has been focused on the ever-changing Williamsburg. The former (and future) Salvation Army site on Bedford Avenue was hotly discussed and then dropped (that's right across the street from the L train entrance—just imagine the crowds).
There's been speculation about the King's Pharmacy address, 247 Bedford Avenue, for a while now. That location makes the most sense, at least in terms of its neighbors—it'd be across the street from Whole Foods and down the block from the almost-open J. Crew. Other chains rumored for the area include New York Sports Club and Joe Fresh.
Update: A previous version of this post listed King's Pharmacy and 247 Bedford Avenue as separate places.
