The Barneys Warehouse Sale Hasn't Improved Since Yesterday

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We headed back to the Barneys Warehouse sample sale on its second day to see what the merchandise was like. There was no line when we arrived, and inside was pretty empty as well—so if you feel like shopping this somewhat disappointing sale, you can do so in relative peace.

As we reported yesterday, the women's section is smaller than the men's and dominated by uninspired Barneys-label garments. The front rack holding designer garments, was restocked but the selection is small and the prices steep. For example: A gold patchwork Derek Lam skirt is $999 and an Altuzarra tuxedo blazer is $569.

On the same rack, a mesh-sleeved dress from the Barneys line is $89, so there's a major difference in both the quality and the price of what you'll find. Unless you're willing to shell out several hundred dollars, you're probably going to be disappointed by the selection.

On the bright side, the women's shoes and accessories selections are slightly better than the clothing. Some great deals in the shoe area include include a pair of neon Saint Laurent pumps for $99 and Dries Van Noten pony-hair booties for $229 (down from $1,150).

As for bags and smaller accessories, there's still a lot of Marc by Marc Jacobs, like seasons-old iPad cases for $69 and some lamb-fur clutches for $309. Some of the sunglasses, unlike yesterday, are now out of the locked case, so you can try them on.

As for the men's section, not much has changed since yesterday—the selection is still massive, well-organized, and varied in both brands and price point. As with the women's section, the special pieces for guys are pricey, but in comparatively well worth their triple-digit price tags: Z. Zegna velvet tuxedo jackets are only $399.

Staff will continue to restock throughout the sale, which runs through Labor Day. For a complete rundown of pricing and brand info, check out our coverage from yesterday below.—Gillian Fuller
