We got into the Barneys Warehouse sample sale this morning just a couple minutes after the door opened at Metropolitan Pavilion. The entrance is on the 19th Street side of the building because the sale is in a slightly smaller space than last year. That especially took a toll on the women's inventory, which seems to get smaller and smaller every year—unlike the men's stock.
Browsing through the women's racks at the front of the sale space, it was obvious that most of the clothing is from the department store's own label, and most of it still has triple-digit price tags—hovering between $100 and $200. Sadly, most of these items looked pretty basic and not even worth their discounted prices.
If you're looking for high-end pieces, check the two racks right at the entrance, or the orange tag merchandise section. Here, there were pieces from Dolce & Gabbana, L'Wren Scott, Lanvin, Fendi, and more—but with hefty price tags.
The shoe selection for women's is pretty expansive—you'll find heels, tall boots, wedges and more from a mix of designers (and more Barneys, of course). While most styles were at least 50% off, you'll still have to drop a lot of cash for the likes of Stella McCartney, Alaia, and Manolo Blahnik.
Over on the men's side, which had a lot more browsing space between the racks than the women's section (no fair!), there's a huge selection of blazers, outerwear, pants, and dress shirts. Ladies have the advantage in the shoe selection, however—the men's collection was full of mostly uninspired leather loafers and brogues in black and shades of brown. We're going back later for a full run-down of the pricing for the guys.
What's important to know is that they will be restocking every day, according to a sales associate, so if you don't like anything you see today, there might be something more up your alley in the days to come. There's fitting rooms for both men and women, and there wasn't a line when we left at 9:30am today.
Stay tuned for full sale reports on the women's and men's selection with photos and price breakdowns later on today.
