Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

You could read a thousand "How to ____ Like a French Girl" articles (How to wear stripes! How to tie a scarf! How to hold a baguette with insouciance!) and be only slightly closer to Gallic-ness, or you could make like an actual Parisian and head to Aurelie Bidermann's new Soho boutique. The Lafayette Street space—the jeweler's first in North America—is all shiny lacquered ceilings, white silk wall coverings, and flashes of turquoise and coral (to match her designs).

Bidermann's signature shell friendship bracelets, gold sharks' teeth pendants, and enamel hoops are all there, as are the pieces she created especially for the new store—her best-selling scarab necklaces and cuffs, done up in blue lapis.
