"My coaching and teaching is best understood by knowing that I am a former professional actor/singer/dancer, raised by a Marine and a special education teacher," Brian Patrick Murphy told us. "Patience with toughness and jazz hands!" The co-founder of midtown's Mark Fisher Fitness is much more than just a personal trainer to his clients—he's also a certified life coach and a minister.
The gym has a "work hard, play hard" mentality that Murphy fully embraces, from breaking out into a spontaneous dance party to going by the official title of "Manimal"—not to mention the fun outfits he donned for us at his photo shoot. Read on to learn his favorite way to take a gym selfie, the "necessities" in his gym bag, and how he treats himself after a workout.
What's the biggest misconception about your sport?
That only meatheads lift.
Gym selfies: yay or nay?
Only if you are naked—then they are highly encouraged!
Favorite post-workout snack?
I love ice cream after a workout (seriously!)
If you weren't a trainer...
I would teach college. I did it and loved it!
What's always in your gym bag?
At least one Speedo, and pink socks.
Biggest gym pet peeve?
Lazy trainers drive me nuts.
Food you'd do 50 burpees for?
None—I basically eat whatever I want.
Update: Brian won the men's poll! Vote for him in the finals here.
