We've been seeing a a lot of gyms popping up in the area recently, but this one is way more out there than a treadmill studio. Bowery Boogie reports that Exile Professional Gym, the city's "first and the only dance studio for Street Dance," will be opening on Second Avenue. According to their website, classes start on September 1st.
The studio, nicknamed EXPG, offers dance classes in anything from pop to lock—yes, they are separate classes—plus various levels of hip hop, house and even Vogue. There will also be vocal lessons offered here.
If this sounds like a pop star training school, you may not be far off. The studio is based in Japan and named after Exile, a nineteen-member "dance & vocal unit" (read: mega boy band), according to the group's official Facebook page that has garnered nearly half a million likes.
Classes are $20 each, or you can become a member for $120 a month, which gets you eight classes. During their first month, try a class for just $10.
