Clothingline's Theory and Theyskens' Theory sample sale kicked off this morning, and we got to head in early for a first look. Women will be able to shop the spring, summer, and pre-fall collections from both lines at up to 70% off , with prices starting at $49. All sizes are represented—from 00 to 14 (petites are available as well)—and there's a pretty equal mix of stock in each size bracket.
There isn't a ton of variety, though you will find plenty of basics and tailored work clothes (with a few standout pieces hidden here and there). So this sale is great if you're looking to build a solid wardrobe foundation, but not if you're on the hunt for something special.
The sale is organized by label, with Theyskens' Theory gear towards the front and Theory garments in the back. Tops from the former include boxy leather shirts for $349 and denim tees for $79; while in the Theory section, you'll find knit shell tanks for $79 and lightweight sweaters for $89.
If you're looking for bottoms, there are tons of Theory's tailored work trousers, tagged $89. Shorts from the main line, as well as from Theyskens' Theory, are $49—look for chiffon overlay styles from Theyskens' and lots of neutral khaki pairs from Theory. There aren't tons of skirts, but we did find leather designs from Theory for $349 and a sequined midi skirt from Theyskens' that was expensive at $599.
There's a decent variety of dresses: you'll find everything from Theyskens' sheer printed midi styles for $109 to leather shifts from the same line for $349. Also available are Theory lace shifts and casual fit-and-flare pointe styles, both for $109.
Jackets and blazers were much pricier than the other gear at the sale, ranging from $169 for tailored blazers and light outerwear to $599 for fur and shearling coats. Blazers were the most well-represented—we saw Theyskens' tuxedo styles and Theory cropped blazers, both $169. There were also quite a few leather jackets from Theyskens' for $349.
Finally, shoes! All Theysken's Theory pumps and flats are $109, while boots are $149. We spotted hunter green suede booties and platform pumps in this section. We couldn't see the sizing distribution because the shoe boxes are held behind a table, however we do know that there's extra stock in the back— so if you're having trouble finding a size on the floor, it's possible that staff will be able to find it for you.
The Clothingline staff will be replenishing all styles throughout the duration of the sale, and further markdowns are likely— stay tuned for updates. For time info, head to the deal feed. —Gillian Fuller
