Swords-Smith's Sale: Your Favorite Indie Labels, Together at Last

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Last night, we stopped by the friends and family portion of the Swords-Smith multi-designer sample sale, which officially began this morning. First things first: this is way bigger than your typical end-of-season boutique sale. You'll find clothing and accessories for both sexes from brands like Creatures of Comfort and Lauren Moffatt for up to 90% off. Most items are under $100, and both summer and fall styles are well-represented.

The women's selection is much larger—and more diverse— than the mens'. For tops, you'll find everything from breezy Creatures of Comfort silk blouses for $60 to cozy Risto graphic-print pullovers for $97. There are also lots of transitional pieces, like Family Affairs long-sleeved blouses for $60.

If you're starting your fall shopping, you should definitely check out the jackets. We spotted tons of great fall options, including Family Affairs velvet blazers for $120 and Morgan Carper leather-sleeved moto jackets for $150.

Bottoms for women, for the most part, are summer-appropriate. Expect to find Creatures of Comfort silk skirts for $50 and Lauren Moffatt cupcake-print quilted minis for $85, along with Feral Childe linen shorts, marked $65. The selection of pants was limited, but we did find H. Fredriksson silk pants for $120 among the racks.

Dresses are plentiful: look for H. Fredriksson color-blocked silk dresses for $150 or Creatures of Comfort midi styles for $60. There are also tons of inexpensive vintage-inspired pieces by Recollection, like plaid shirt dresses for $50.

Accessories are limited, but include Morgan Carper mini backpacks for $90 and a selection of jewelry, like rings by Bjorg for $50 and Clermont brass cuffs for $35. For shoes, expect to find Swedish Hasbeens leather booties and clog sandals, both for $99.

For guys, the emphasis is on tops, like Swords-Smith floral tees for $45, Soulland graphic t-shirts for $20, and Common People sweaters, marked $60. There's a small selection of shorts and pants: look for Rising Sun boot-leg jeans ($99) and The West is Dead chambray shorts for $70.

Guys won't find a whole lot in the jacket department, but we did spot Filson Garment waterproof peacoats for $119 and Common People quilted varsity jackets for $150.

As for guys' accessories, there's a good selection of shoes: highlights include Soulland floral-print oxfords and Guava wing-tips, both for $99. There are also some Tanner Goods canvas tote bags for $125 and The Dunlap Weavers wool scarves for $60.

The staff will be restocking and bringing out new items throughout the duration of the sale, but there will be no further markdowns, so we recommend heading in earlier than later. Check the deal feed for full time and location info. — Gillian Fuller
