Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Welcome to Racked New York's search for New York City's hottest trainer. Over the coming weeks, we'll profile sixteen smoking locals—fitness experts who not only look hot in spandex, but can make you look amazing too. Once you've gotten to know everyone, we'll host a March Madness-style showdown in which readers vote for their favorites. Let the games begin!

DavidBartonGym has always motivated its clients to "Look Better Naked," and Mike Strevel is a key element in that mission. He's a personal training manager at the Astor Place location and also teaches classes like "Shredded," which uses weight training and jump-rope cardio to create a total body endurance challenge. And there's an obvious reason he's drawn to this class: "Winning the jump rope contest in 3rd grade was the best day of my young life—I killed it," he told us. "It was in that moment that I realized I love a good competition."
The eight-year veteran of the fitness world is all about keeping it simple—"The tried and true exercises that have been around for ages have been around that long for a reason." Ahead, find out his stance on gym selfies, his interesting post-workout snack, and the the fancy dessert he'd hit the ground for countless times.
What's one song that always gets you pumped up?
Right now. "Fancy (Yellow Claw Trap Remix)" by Iggy Azalea is on repeat. This girl rocks so hard—she really gets it. Plus, I have such a big crush on her.
Gym selfies: yay or nay?
Definite yay—putting in the hard work and dedication leads to awesome results. I use gym selfies as a way to help others motivate themselves to work their butts off!
Favorite post-workout snack?
My go-to snack post workout is four hardboiled eggs and a mango with hot sauce.
Favorite celebrity body.
David Beckham, hands down.
Food you'd do 50 burpees for?
Talenti's Caribbean Coconut Gelato—hell, I'd do a lot more than 50 burpees for a gallon of that stuff.
