Shop Dusen Dusen and Lindsey Thornburg at This Sale

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Update: This sale has been extended through Thursday, August 7th.

The Designer Collective sample sale kicked off this morning at 114 Stanton St., with up to 80% off threads and accessories from indie and local labels including Collina Strada and Lindsey Thornburg. Because the goods on offer aren't mass-made, some of the garments still boast triple-digit price tags; but we think this sale is totally worth shopping for the one-of-a-kind finds. Plus, some of the designers are in-store to man the sale themselves, so they're available to answer any and all questions.

The sale is organized by designer, with each rack holding garments from a different label. We checked out the gear from Dusen Dusen first, and found tons of flattering, feminine gear including patterned silk shirt dresses for $150 and colorblock shifts for $95. In front of the designer's display is a bin with gear marked $20-$50: some of these items are damaged, but we found a $40 striped silk skirt that looked to be in perfect condition.

The Collina Strada display is stocked with leather garments and handbags of all sizes. We were stoked to find the label's Nico clutches for $70, as well as oversized leather totes for just $75. Clothing-wise, we spotted structured leather tees for $100, floral silk track pants for $120, and leather overalls for $350.

The selection of Some Odd Rubies gear was, in our opinion, among the coolest at the sale (and the least expensive). The brand specializes in re-purposing and recycling old vintage clothing, so nearly everything on offer is one-of-a-kind. Some highlights: high-waisted floral shorts for $25, a knife-pleat chiffon halter dress for $40, and a floral kimono-style jacket (which you can see in the gallery) for $60.

Lindsey Thornburg's section includes everything from casual linen rompers for $45 to floor-length velvet-accented dresses for $120. We also spotted linen crop tops for $50, velvet-trimmed chiffon tanks for $135, and an oversized smoking jacket for $120.

The Obesity+Speed selection is relatively small. Expect to find graphic tees for $30, mesh tanks for $40, and graphic sweatshirts for $50. The prices are good, considering the brand's gear usually goes for a lot more; but we think your money is better spent on the more unique pieces at this sale.

As for accessories, you'll find handmade leather bags by local label Cold Picnic for $110, Wildfox Couture sunglasses for $95, and a small smattering of jewelry from Suzannah Wainhouse, like brass cross earrings ($60) and broken-heart friendship rings for $200 (for a set of two). There is also a tiny selection of $110 sandals by Lola Sabbia, but they're all one style (available in silver, blue, and black) and start at size 7.

There's a small changing area in the back of the sale space, which can fit about two people at once (there are curtains separating out two small spaces for privacy). The designers will all bring out more stock as the sale continues, and markdowns are possible on Sunday, the last day of the sale, and the sale now runs through Thursday, August 7th.
