Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Rumbling stomachs everywhere craving something sweet were abruptly silenced this week when Crumbs announced—with one day's notice!—that it would be closing all of its stores. Though the shuttered brand could easily crowdsource at least one new location if everyone who posted a Facebook eulogy just donated $1, an easier solution may be in the works.

Eater NY reports that the investor group "plans to provide the chain with financing and hopes to ultimately buy it." The company also owns a "healthy" candy company, Sweet Pete's Candy, so it looks like they're trying to round out their dessert portfolio.
