The J.Crew sample sale draws more mixed reviews than almost any other sale on the calendar (case in point: this 44-comment debate from December's sale). On one hand, the 60% off discount means that most of the merchandise is priced below $150, and basics start around the $30 mark. On the other hand, the most common complaint is that prices are often better at the sale-on-a-sale at the brand's freestanding stores.
A reader last year wrote: "Prices were steep considering the possibility of damage and secondhand (outlet) quality. Given the sales going on the J.Crew and Factory sites, the deals were not great—or at least not worth the wait." However, another appropriately argued that "with sample sales it's really just a matter of luck and time you have to spend."
This season's sale will again take place in two separate locations: men's merchandise, the smallest lot, will be at 225 Fifth Avenue, and women's, Crewcuts, and Madewell will be at 260 Fifth Avenue.
The six-day sale will begin on the 24th at 10am and wind down on the 29th, and you can expect a major line on opening day. But will you be on it? Let us know if you think the sale has jumped the shark, or if it's still worth shopping.
