This morning, we checked out the Alice + Olivia sample sale at 260 Fifth Avenue before it opened to the public at noon. Though there was no line outside, the inside of the sale was chaotic and the line for the fitting room snaked throughout the entire space.
Despite that, the sale is totally worth checking out: Prices start at $29 for samples and $39 for stock, and sizes range from 0 through 12. Note that many garments do cost upwards of $200, but they're steeply discounted from their original prices. Dresses are definitely the highlight of this sale, including beaded cocktail dresses, floor-length gowns, and flirty day dresses.
Some of our favorites dresses were a tiered and embroidered floor-length gown for $289, tweed bustier dresses for $159, and a lip-print collared mini, marked down to $279. There are also tons of flashier styles with sequins and rhinestones, like a sequined chevron sheath dress ($269) that's featured in the gallery above.
Most of the tops we found are warm-weather styles like tanks and crop tops. A few highlights: fringed flapper-style camis for $119, cropped leather bustiers for $159, and drapey beaded tanks, also $159.
There's a selection of outerwear that's mostly blazers and tuxedo-style jackets. We found lace-detailed peplum blazers for $269 and cropped satin jackets for $159. We also saw short-sleeved colorblocked leather jackets for $289 that were originally $996.
When we were there, it was a bit difficult to sift through the selection of pants and skirts thanks to the fitting room line, but we noticed the stock was heavier on the pants: we spotted metallic trousers, wide-leg chiffon pants, and skinny cargo jeans, all marked $119. The skirts we did find included leather pleated mini skirts and knife-pleat chiffon maxi skirts, both $199.
Samples take up the entire back area of the sale space, and range in price from $29 for leggings to $119 for gowns. Some of the samples are duplicates of the stock we found up front, so it's definitely worth taking a look to snag a better deal. We liked the velvet brocade tanks for $49, sequined tuxedo jackets for $99, and lace-bodice jumpsuits for $49. We didn't notice any damages, but as always, it's best to inspect before you buy.
A very small selection of accessories is available, including one style of leather tote bags for $99 and floral chiffon scarves for $49. A sign indicated that there are also pins and children's clothing in the accessories area, but we didn't see any—either they were sold out or not put out yet.
As we mentioned, there is a fitting room but the line is painfully long, so we recommend figuring out your size before going. Staff will be restocking throughout the sale, and they were hesitant to give details on further markdowns but there will most likely be some additional discounts on the last day.
