After a potential delay for Empire Outlets, the Staten Island outlet mall that'll be adjacent to the world's-largest Ferris wheel, now has a super-crazy opening date. According to the Commercial Observer, developers are pushing for the 350,000 square feet of retail space to open its doors on Friday, November 25th, 2016, which is also the biggest shopping day ever: Black Friday.

With space for 125 sellers, shoppers will definitely find a variety of discounted goods here. Nordstrom Rack has already signed a lease, and a Saks Off Fifth is rumored to be in the works as well.

As for the rest of the tenants? "It's going to be high-end European fashion brands, [among others]" said Don Capoccia of BFC Partners, the firm developing the North Shore mall. "It will be the usual suspects."

Regardless of who's in store, the project is expected to be a boon for the region that was hit hard by Superstorm Sandy in 2012 and is still on the path to recovery. Empire Outlets is expected to bring in 1,000 construction jobs and 1,200 permanent jobs. And once the project and the New York Wheel are completed, Staten Island could see up to 6 million tourists per year.

"If they could pull this off and get it going," said Faith Hope Consolo, a top retail real estate broker at Douglas Elliman, "it would be great for the community and revitalize an area that's been so hurt."
