Tons of $50 Samples Dominate the Parker Sample Sale

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We stopped by the Parker showroom today to preview their sample sale, which kicked off this morning at 9am. To sum it up, the sale is massive and includes tons of stock from current and past seasons and a boatload of samples. When we were there, the showroom was nearly filled with racks, and staff was still bringing stuff out. We'd recommend heading in early: the prices are great (maxing out at $120), and we anticipate it getting hit hard.

The draw of this sale is definitely the samples, all of which are $50. Staff told us the brand cleaned out their archives, and have nearly 1,000 samples up for grabs. We didn't notice any damages or defects, and some of the pieces were really special.

The only downside though is that it's a bit difficult to differentiate between the samples and stock; everything is kind of mixed in together, so you'll have to inspect items closely to figure out the pricing. If there's no size tag, or there's only one available, it's most likely a sample.

A few sample highlights include velvet-detailed ombre maxi skirts, color blocked flapper-style dresses, cropped leather jackets, and perforated suede dresses with mesh detailing.

The regular stock is pretty heavy on the dresses. We spotted a sequined open-back shift dress, colorful beaded shifts, and few beaded (decidedly fancier) maxi dresses. These—and all beaded and sequined dresses—are tagged $120 each. Casual day dresses without embellishment are all $80, and include summery printed cinched-waist styles and bi-layer mini dresses.

Tops are $60, and there are summery tanks and sweaters. We found casual tanks with floral cutout details, loose-knit sweaters with metallic rainbow detailing, and floral chiffon blouses. Embellished tops are $100 each: look for drapey beaded tanks and long-sleeved beaded blouses. Leather tops, including one great a laser-cut tank, are also $100.

The price list on the wall indicates that silk bottoms are $60, which is a bit misleading because you'll find a host of skirts in thicker fabrics and knits, which are the same price (excluding leather and suede styles, which are $100 each). The selection of bottoms is a bit smaller, but you'll find body-con skirts in a variety of colors and patterns; beaded harem pants; and printed and cropped silk pants. Leather options include perforated suede trousers and tiered leather mini skirts.

The showroom staff constructed a large makeshift fitting room in the sale space, so you won't have to worry about changing in front of every shopper. Merchandise will be restocked and replenished throughout the sale—and samples added—but there will be no further markdowns. The sale runs through Thursday at 234 W. 39th Street, from 9am to 5pm daily.—Gillian Fuller
