The Ulla Johnson and Beautiful Dreamers sample sale was all a flurry this morning, with trendy shoppers buzzing about the storefront space just minutes after the 11am opening. Everyone was pleased to see tons of summer stock among the different designers' designated spaces for well below retail price.
From Ulla Johnson's summer 2014 collection, we saw everything from cotton gauze and voile tops starting at $60 to maxi-dresses with crochet details and dresses with contrast embroidery for $150. Quilted jackets in floral prints are going for $150, while linen tees with woven details are $85. Ulla Johnson had the most to offer as far as variety, sizes, and styles go at this sale.
Loup Charmant stocked peasant tops and tunics with prices as low as $50. A bin marked $25 includes voile tap pants and miscellaneous scarves. In the back corner there are two racks packed with clothes from Isabel Marant, Jeremy Laing, Caron Callahan and Jesse Kamm. We overheard a salesperson say that it was vintage, but everything we saw was in good condition and most styles were only a few seasons old.
We spotted a white dress from Jeremy Laing and a navy wool coat from Jesse Kamm for $200 each. Poplin shirts and skirts from Caron Callahan are priced from $60 to $85. There are a few pairs of last spring's A Détacher sandals for $200.
A large selection of flat Dieppa Restrepo loafers is available in all sizes for $200. Heels are going for $250 and exotic skin styles are $300. The Surf Bazaar section in the front of the store has all your summer cover-up needs, from maxi dresses in lightweight voile and neon embroidered tops for $90, to open back tees, cotton shorts, and tanks starting at $10.
There is one drawback to this sale: you have to pay each designer separately, which is discouraging if you're short on time. We overheard salespeople saying not to try on clothes, but shoppers weren't listening—they gathered in the back of the space to change and made their way to the two mirrors towards the center of the store.
We recommend getting to this sale earlier rather than later, because based on the eager crowd this morning, we can't imagine there will be much of a selection come Saturday.
