The Nicholas K sample sale began this morning with a surprisingly quiet start. Prices are well below retail, starting at just $40 for women's spring 2014 runway samples and topping off at $360 for overstock leather jackets. Men's and women's styles are available in multiple sizes.

We were surprised to see a few racks in the center of the space from the brand Cardigan, where prices started at $40 for fine gauge knit tees and went up to $90 for chunky sweaters in novelty stitches. Mariner stripes, marled yarns, and classic sweater styles fill the racks of mostly women's apparel, although there's a small section for the men. We were told there will be much more Cardigan merchandise for the weekend, with more spring 2014 styles for $90 and cashmere sweaters for $120.

We spotted so many styles perfect for summer among the Nicholas K racks, from drape-front woven shirts for $120 to cotton tent dresses in black and white for $150. Delicate chiffon printed pants are only $85, while chiffon dresses are going for $175. Avant-garde style outerwear includes cotton trench coats for $250, and they're well worth the money.

One rack of vintage reference garments is only $50, and includes utilitarian outerwear, a rabbit fur jacke,t and brightly printed dresses. Be sure to check these styles for damages, though: we saw a few tears in a lace dress and discoloring on a white jacket.

Knit bottoms for $85 and lightweight hooded sweaters for $160 are laid out on a table in the center of the spacious storefront. Bins of fur trimmed scarves are going for $110, while a few pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses are on the checkout table for just $50.

Men's styles include button down shirts for $120, lightweight cotton jackets for $250, and avant-garde cargo shorts for $85.

With only one small mirror, we suspect things will get a little hectic when more than one shopper is trying on clothes. Though there won't be any new merchandise added to the Nicholas K sale, there are more sizes available, so be sure to ask if you don't see what you need. Scroll through the photo gallery above to see more of the merchandise.
