If you want to look really pretty this summer, then the Nanette Lepore sample sale would be a great place to start: It's packed with tons of feminine dresses and separates in beautiful laces, bold patterns, and flattering colors.
We went by for a preview of the sale last night while they were setting up. It's divided into four sections: current 2014 production, older production, samples, and accessories. The star of the sale is definitely the current stock. Both the spring runway and resort collection are included. We saw a lot of items we've been eying in the stores, including the Breathless Shift, the Bombshell Dress and The Shy Glance Top, with most prices falling into the 60% to 75% off range.
All skirts and pants are $100, tops and sweaters are $95 and shorts are $85. If you're looking for dresses, there are a lot of great options and most are priced at $150, with the exception of a few maxi dresses that are $175.
That's also the price of jackets, and there are some really fun lightweight summer ones here, including a black lace motorcycle jacket with leather detailing. There are also cute, colorful bathing suits, with one piece suits priced at $60 and two pieces at $30 for each separate.
Once you get past the rows of current production, you'll find a double-sided aisle of old production designs from previous seasons. Coats are $150, but nothing else is over $100. Jackets are $95, dresses are $75, skirts are $60, and pants, tops and sweaters are all just $50. If you're on a budget, but not petite enough to wear sample sizes, this is a section of the sale that you'll definitely want to check out.
And speaking of samples, there's a double-sided aisle of them, most of which are size 2s. Be sure to try on any samples before you buy them though, because they don't always run true to size. At this sale, unlike at the recent archive sale, most of the samples tend to be from more recent seasons and are lightweight, warm-weather pieces.
All samples are under $100, with coats, leather jackets, and leather dresses all priced at $95. Non-leather jackets are $65, dresses are $45 and skirts, pants, sweaters, and tops are all just $30.
No Nanette Lepore sale would be complete if it didn't include accessories, and this one is no exception. There are a lot of handbags this time around, including samples from a few runway and resort seasons. Totes range from $25 to $50, while leather handbags are priced at $65, $95 or $125, depending on their size and design. There are also hologram iPad cases for $65 and $75.
All shoes and boots are just $50, so once again, they're the steal of the sale. Here, you'll find both production overstock and runway samples. There is also an assortment of belts, including some fun 80s-influenced colorful studded patent ones we loved for $25.
There's a communal dressing room with assistants who will try to find you a different size if you need it. The sale runs through Thursday, from 9am to 7pm daily.
