Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We stopped by the Staff USA showroom today to check out their current sample sale, and it was hectic. Though we arrived as soon as the sale opened to the public, many items—shoes and accessories in particular—were pretty picked over. Most of the merchandise still costs upwards of $250, so we recommend going only if you're willing to drop some serious cash.

The sale includes both menswear and womenswear, and everything is priced individually: some with original prices, some without. We found items by Marc Jacobs, Viktor & Rolf, and Maison Martin Margiela, but DSquared2 garments make up the majority of the inventory for both sexes.

The women's area is made up of mostly casual fall/winter gear, though we did find some colored DSquared2 denim ($198), a silky Viktor and Rolf tee cut from $985 to $366, and MM6 chambray dresses, tagged $116. There are also several big-ticket items, including one sequined, art-deco style Margiela dress for $4,957 and a DSquared2 bedazzled winter coat for $1,174 (originally $2,935).

Women's shoes include sandals, flats, heels, and boots in sizes 36 through 40. We found neon-lined MM6 by Maison Martin Margiela oxfords for $143, Viktor & Rolf heeled loafers for $346(from $835), and banana-yellow Margiela booties for $970.

The smaller menswear section is dominated by professional clothes, including Maison Martin Margiela suits for $1,090 and blazers for $626. There are a handful of casual items, like DSquared2 sweatshirts for $142 and Viktor & Rolf printed tees for $109, but the selection was fairly small.

The guys' shoe section is primarily sneakers in sizes 42 through 45. We spotted Marc Jacobs leather low-tops for $190 and saddle shoes for $359. There's a small section of dress shoes, including Viktor & Rolf leather styles for $281.

The sale also included a smattering of women's accessories, though it seemed like it was included as an afterthought. We spotted a Viktor and Rolf evening bag for $1,163, and Maison Martin Margiela leather phone sleeves for $238.

Near the checkout are two small bins of jewelry, but we recommend skipping this section altogether—almost all of the jewelry we found was broken or unmarked, and the selection was extremely sparse.

All in all, we suggest sitting this one out unless there's something specific you want, or if you don't mind splurging on pricey casual clothes. The staff informed us that there will be no restocking and there may be markdowns, but nothing is planned as of yet.

There's no dressing room or designated area for changing. The sale runs through Saturday at 220 W. 19th Street; head over to the dealfeed below for hours.—Gillian Fuller
