We swung by Thakoon's showroom yesterday to check out the sample sale going on now, and we recommend heading there ASAP since these items will probably sell out quickly. The sale is primarily clothing, priced from $50 to $1,230, though most of the merchandise hovers around $200.
The stock appears to be a mix of items from current and past seasons, including spring/summer 2013. One room houses current-season items from both Thakoon and Thakoon Addition, while the second room houses various samples, which are limited in quantity and sizing.
Nothing has an original price tag, but we were told that everything was marked down by up to 80%. Highlights from the lower-priced Addition line—which make up a majority of the inventory—include lightweight plaid bomber jackets for $150, black tuxedo pants for $75, and drop-waist sleeveless dresses for $125.
The Thakoon collection is slightly more expensive. We found a summery eyelet dress for $150, a lace-and-sequin cocktail dress for $800, and a green-and-white striped jacket for $175. The most expensive thing we found was a special-occasion floral print gown for $1,230. Sizes for both Thakoon and Thakoon Addition labels capped off at an eight.
The sale also includes a very small selection of shoes from the brand's 2012 collaboration with Laurence Dacade. There are only a few styles of sandals, pumps, and loafers, and only in sizes 39, 40, and 41. Each pair is $100.
Make sure to check each item carefully, because some of the samples are damaged—although most of the defects are barely noticeable, like small tears and pulls. Additionally, some garments are missing price tags. We recommend asking the sales associates for price info for these to avoid some major sticker shock (though a sign on the wall says that all Thakoon Addition knits are $75 and Thakoon knits are $100, this didn't seem to be true across the board.)
The sale is in the brand's showroom, so there is no dressing room—be prepared to change in front of other shoppers. There will be no further markdowns and no restocking, so we suggest heading over there now if you're planning to go. All items are final sale and cards and cash are accepted, but be sure to bring an ID to get into the building.
The sale runs through Friday, May 9th—check out the dealfeed below for detailed info, and click through the gallery for product shots and more pricing.—Gillian Fuller
