ODD on the LES Is What Summer Goth Dreams Are Made Of

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

What, oh what, is a goth to do in the summertime? (Or, more accurately, a former-mall-goth-turned-architect-or-creative-director.) If they've graduated from Hot Topic to slick snakeskin jacquard Sally Lapointe shifts, the answer is shop at ODD—where everything is black, white, or heavy metal. (With a few dashes of look-at-me neon.)

For spring, the Ludlow Street shop's buyers have filled the space with hard-to-find labels like Iris Van Herpen, whose braided leather cage dresses are one part outerspace-S&M-dungeon and one part Beyonce, and Rombaut, the industry's leading purveyor of tree bark sneakers. (They're surprisingly squishy!)

Browsing the racks will unearth a few lighter pieces—a nautical tank and shorts set here, a fit-and-flare dress there—but if sweet is what you're after, be prepared to sort through your fair share of spiked cuffs and leather bustiers.
