Welcome to Dress Code, a new feature where we pick a New York event and ask three of our favorite shops to solve the what-do-I-even-wear-to-that dilemma.
A sneak peek at American Two Shot's look.
First up: Memorial Day at Rockaway Beach! We challenged American Two Shot, Cloak & Dagger, and Swords-Smith (all Indie 38 standbys) to style foolproof beach-to-boardwalk outfits out of their spring deliveries. See (and shop!) their picks below, from sailboat-print dresses and striped rompers to the coolest '90s-babysitter crop top ever.
Where: Cloak & Dagger
Why: Cloak & Dagger's favorite hashtag on Instagram is "#cuteshit," which definitely applies to this look. "I paired this adorable sailboat print Riviera dress with the perfect-for-every-occasion Swedish clog sandal of the season," store owner Brookelynn Starnes said of her Memorial Day outfit, adding that it's "perfect for the boardwalk."
Where: American Two Shot
Why: "We grew up in Miami so we've definitely figured out what works near the beach—lightweight, colorful and hands-free is the key!" American Two Shot's Olivia Wolfe says of store manager Krickie's outfit. "The Howie jacket is one of our faves because it's warm enough to get the job done, but light enough that it's easy to tie around your waist.
The Addison shorts are so comfy and high wasted, perfect to pair with the TBA crop top. Khoi's backpack is great because your hands are free for hot dogs and beer, but your back still looks chic. Lastly, Smoke & Mirrors glasses are our go-to because they look so great on guys and girls, and these cream frames are perfect for summer."
Why: Swords-Smith staffer Tishka pulled this outfit because, "the jumpsuit is casual enough to throw on over a bathing suit after a dip in the ocean, while still being a fun statement piece you can wear into the evening." Agreed! And, we would like to add, the slightly blousy silhouette would be very welcome after a three-Rockaway-taco lunch.
